NDP Convention #mtlqc13 – Sunday Breakfast

Today, I decided to skip the buffet and instead went for the omelet station, and ordered one all-dressed: mushrooms, tomatoes, onions, ham, peppers and cheese. The cook sauteed the veggies and the meat first, then added liquid eggs. Once it was a solid base, he melted the cheese on top. On the side, I got a couple of slices of ham. The omelette was pretty good, some fluffyness and gooeyness, but there could have been more eggs. The ham was a bit of a disappointment, a little on the dry side.

NDP Convention #mtlqc13 – Friday Breakfast

Here I am in Montreal, for the biggest policy convention the NDP has ever held. Before I headed down to the Palais des Congrès, I stopped by Saveur, the restaurant at the Hyatt Regency, for a quick breakfast. I went straight for the warm buffet. I filled my (small) plate with Scrambled eggs, sausages, bacon, and taters. Of all that was on my plate, the taters were the most disapointing – not very warm, not as crispy as I expected. The eggs were creamy, the sausages had a good snap though the bacon could have been a little more crispy. For good measure, I finished with a bowl of litchi. Delicious! Now ready to go for day 1! The Original Pancake House

Our baseball weekend was winding down. Before the trip, Theo had spotted a location for our last breakfast. The Original Pancake House. Well, if it’s the Original, did we have a choice? Now, of course, this Original wasn’t the original Original Pancake House, since the chain was founded in Portland, Oregon in 1953. There is now 116 all over the United States. They pride themselves in using the very finest ingredients, such as 93 score butter, pure 36% whipping cream, fresh grade AA eggs, hard wheat unbleached flour, and their original sourdough starter. And guess what, their specialty is pancakes. We made the trek via CRT to the Original Pancake House located in Chicago’s Gold Coast District, an historic district on the North Side, known as one of the richest areas in Chicago.
