Get $25 from Loblaw

So Loblaw admitted to participatig in a commercial collusion scheme to set prices for bakery products, along with George Weston Ltd. Or as they put it, “Loblaw discovered that Canadians were overcharged for the cost of some packaged bread products in our stores and other grocery stores across Canada.” The management of both companies claim to have warned the Competition Bureau as soon as they learned of this scheme in March 2015. Loblaw was co-ordinating the retail and wholesale prices of certain packaged bakery products over the period from late 2001 to March 2015. But they didn’t know they were doing it. So the companies will apparently not be charged or punished. Well then. Yet, to redeem itself, Loblaw will offer eligible customers who register online a $ 25 gift card as compensation. Registration for the Loblaw Card Program will open on January 8, 2018. In the meantime, you can…

It’s World Sandwich Day!

It’s November 3rd, which means it’s World Sandwich Day! On November 3rd 2015, Subway Canada celebrated National Sandwich Day for the first time with a buy one sub, get one sub deal. The Waffle reported about it. In 2016, Subway went a step further, with a buy one, get one, give one campaign, in partnership with Food Banks Canada. This was the first nation-wide meal donation campaign from Subway Canada. And on its second year of celebrating National Sandwich Day, the campaign was a success, generating a financial donation equivalent to 574,738 meals to Food Banks Canada. Will they beat that score in 2017? So today, if you purchase a sandwich with a drink, you will receive a free sandwich, and the equivalent of one meal (33 cents) will be donated to Food Banks Canada. Help raise money for food banks right in time for the Holidays. Visit your local Subway…

St-Hubert Classics

Our little Wafflings simply love St-Hubert. Whenever we ask them about going to a restaurant, St-Hubert is their choice 95% of the time. Here and there, Boston Pizza or Benny & Co. will pop up as an option. But St-Hubert is where it’s at. Now, we used to always head tothe Maisonneuve location in Hull. But ever since they renovated, at a cost of a million dollars, to make it more modern and somehow “retrochic”, the Wafflings are done with it. Imagine, St-Hubert replaced their favorite games room with a wine cellar. “We don’t drink wine at St-Hubert, papa. Not even you!”  Wise words. Indeed. I’ll have the odd beer, but I usually stick with the bottomless Coke or Sprite. But that’s beside the point. This hot chicken is in the Cage

We were on our way to Poutinefest on Sparks Street. As we got to the Portage bridge, we realized it was closed. I turned left towards the Alexandria bridge, which was completely jam-packed. I kept going, thinking I’d cross on the MacDonald-Cartier bridge. I did. But there was no getting anywhere near Sparks street. “Everything around here is purple,” stated Ms. Waffle after looking at her traffic app. ”What’s going on?” Ms. Waffle looked it up. The CN Cycle for CHEO. Road closures were numerous. So we gave up on Poutinefest. We made our way back across the river. First, I thought we could go to Le BBQ Shop on Fournier. But it was closed. I kept going, and figured we could still get our Poutine fix at GAGA Patate. Also closed. I kept driving around, and Ms. Waffle suggested Routine Poutine. Guess what? Closed. “Well, La Cage aux Sports…
