Kelsey’s 2020 Burger Battle

Kelsey’s is back with its famous Burger Battle, featuring creations from four of its Original Roadhouse locations across Canada.

There are four contenders this year: The Chip and Dip Burger, the Double Stacked Philly Burger, the Truck Stop Burger and the Mushroom Melter.

You can vote for your favourite burger and win burgers for a year!
I haven’t tried any of them, and I am not sure when I’ll be able to eat a burger at a restaurant again with the measures currently in place, but here are the contenders with my analysis of each concept:

Chip & Dip Burger

Chip & Dip Burger

Created by Justin McLeod at Kelseys Fanshawe
100% Fresh Canadian ground chuck patties double stacked with Potato Chips, melted cheese curd, double smoked bacon, garlic aioli and served with beef gravy for dipping.

A twist on the Beef Dip, I am not so sure about this one. Chip and Dip sounds catchy, but who likes soggy chips, except maybe my mom? Points for double smoked bacon and melted cheese curd.

Double Stacked Philly Burger

Double Stacked Philly Burger

Created by Rob Jones at Kelseys Tillsonburg
100% Fresh Canadian ground chuck patties double stacked with roasted mushrooms, Swiss cheese, crispy onion strings, red peppers, shredded lettuce, tomato, red onions, sriracha lime spice, BBQ sauce and mayo.

This is a simple concept, really, but with enough novelty to make it interesting. Roasted mushrooms and Swiss cheese is a classic combo, but Swiss is not the chesse of choice for a Philly. Try Provolone. Points for red peppers and intrigued by the sriracha lime spice.

The Truck Stop Burger

Truck Stop Burger

Created by Randell Inting at Kelseys Tecumseh
100% Fresh Canadian ground chuck patty with a crispy chicken thigh, Cheddar cheese, pickles, shredded lettuce, tomato, red onions, and house burger sauce.

Look at this monster! If they get the chicken right, and if the beef packs a punch, this could be delicious. I note the classic toppings, which are simple enough not to distract from the beef and chicken combo. Not sure Cheddar is the way to go to bridge the two, though. Monterey Jack, maybe?

Mushroom Melter

Mushroom Melter

Created by Holly Marrisett at Kelseys Whitby
100% Fresh Canadian ground chuck patties double stacked with roasted mushrooms, Swiss and Cheddar cheese, double smoked bacon, crispy onion strings, shredded lettuce, tomato, and Smokin Cajun Dip.

Now, that’s a burger’s burger. Nothing too fancy, but great combination. Double stacked, Double cheese, Double smoked bacon. Mushrooms and Onions. Looks great! The Smokin Cajun Dip will likely round everything out to make this quite delicious.

The vote for Kelseys Burger Battle is on until October 25th.

Sadly, the actual contest is open for residents of Ontario, New Brunswick and Newfoundland only. But you can still vote if you live elsewhere.

***** UPDATE Monday November 16, 2020 @ 12:31

The votes are in and Kelseys just announced that the winner is the Truck Stop burger.

This winning entry was created by Randell Inting from Kelseys Tecumseh, Ontario. It is getting a permanent spot on Kelsey’s Roadhouse menu.
