R Easter Turkey

Opened in the spring of 1976, under the ownership of famous hockey coach Brian Kilrea, (later joined by Nick Bouris), the Chances R is located in College Square in Ottawa. It offers a casual dining atmosphere and has that family operation to it. Kilrea still greets customers despite his age, and the Waffle has had the pleasure to exchange with him a few times.

Chances R closed theirs doors on March 16th but had decided to reopen for Easter. Not the dining room, of course, but if you’d like to treat yourself to a turkey dinner, Chances R will be there for you!

Introducing Chez Poilu

Over the last few months, my friend Jeff has been making a lot of different cocktails and posting the results on his Facebook page, making us drooling with admiration.

He has especially active since the beginning of the covid-19 crisis and the implementation of the public health emergency measures.

So by popular request, he has put all the recipes and photos in one place.  So far, there are 47 wonderful concoctions for you to check out, including the Quarantini, the Unicorn Tears, the Correct Cocktail, the Release the Kraken and many more.

Introducing Chez Poilu Cocktails:

Waffle House closing some locations

Yesterday, Waffle House started to close some locations across the U.S. as the COVID-19 pandemic spread.

The breakfast-chain is updating the count on their Facebook page using #WaffleHouseIndexRed:

On March 24th: 365 Waffle House closed, 1627 open.
On March 25th: 418 Waffle House closed, 1574 open.
On March 26th: 429 Waffle House closed, 1563 open.

From one Waffle to another, let me say that I think that is too many.

On March 15th, Waffle House said they were attempting to keep their customers safe and keep nearly 45,000 employees employed:

“We want to acknowledge the great efforts of our associates, who work hard every shift to create a safe, warm and welcoming dining experience 24 hours daily.”

“We are working hard to support them as we do our best to manage through this crisis.”

You can call your local Waffle House for a carry-out order.

KFC’s kitchens are open and their service is contactless

To our Canadian community,

You’re likely following the news related to COVID-19 and, like you, we’re learning each day as we continue to monitor this ever-changing situation. As we navigate this uncharted territory, it’s the small things that help us feel connected — including enjoying your favourite meal. That’s why the health and safety of our guests, teams and communities will always remain our top priority.

Going Contactless

All Canadian restaurants are moving to contactless operations, to be in full effect from March 19, 2020 onwards. We will be enforcing social distancing practices in all our service touchpoints.

Contactless service will extend to our delivery business automatically. Guests will not have to select “contactless” to receive this service when ordering.

Social Distancing Is Everyone’s Priority

All our restaurants across Canada are acting in accordance with the recommendations of the Federal, Provincial and Municipal governments and health officials as a minimum standard. This includes the following measures:

  • Full closure of our dining rooms or reduced seating options where applicable.
  • Restaurants will continue to serve take-out, drive-thru and delivery and we encourage our guests to order ahead or order delivery on KFC.ca.
Extra Measures to Keep Everything Clean

We will continue to reinforce our already strict sanitation, handwashing and health and wellness policies for our team members. We have also employed additional sanitization and cleaning standards and protocols in our restaurants, particularly on all high-touch areas.

One Community Effort

In times like these, we believe taking action and coming together as a community is more important than ever. With more than 600 restaurants in Canada and thousands more in over 140 countries and territories across the globe, we are continuing to learn from our partners around the world and will continue to make decisions based on the well-being of our teams and communities.

Thank you for letting the Colonel cook for your families for nearly 65 years. In times like these, we appreciate the loyalty and support of our customers.
